A friend once asked in disbelief: “How can you make money online with 1000 naira?” That’s a difficult question to answer. You might also find it hard to believe that you can make money online with 1000 Naira but the internet now provides lots of opportunities to make this possible.

Making money online requires some skills, effort and consistency – there’s no free lunch anywhere.

Making Money Online

Consider making money online as a business, and like all businesses, start-up capital is required to acquire the necessary things needed for the business. With an online business, you may not necessarily require a large sum to kick off.

All that’s needed is your smartphone or computer and internet connection with a data subscription of about N1,000 monthly. Even where you don’t have a personal computer you can use a friend’s for business.

Remember, your data subscription can also be used for personal stuff, not just business. That means your start-up capital is could be even less than N1,000.

How can you make money online with 1000 naira

Below are a few ways on how you can make money online with 1,000 Naira.

1. Freelance

This is one of the most common ways to make money online with N,1000 (data subscription). It has to do with performing skill-based tasks for clients online. There are various freelance platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, People per Hour, Freelancer and Golance.

These freelance sites offer opportunities to make at least N1,500 ($5), and at most N35,000 ($100) per task.

Freelance provides opportunities in a wide variety of industry, to anyone with the necessary skills such as graphics design, photography, web design, writing, transcription, etc.

Getting registered and approved on freelance platforms as a ‘seller’ varies. Some sites like Fiverr easily approve sellers so long as they are legitimate; which means you would be required to provide a form of national ID.

For other sites like Upwork, getting approved may not be so easy as they pay huge attention to your skill level and how you construct your profile page. (If you need help with getting approved on Upwork, send an email to hello@businessinnigeria.com.ng).

Clients do not necessarily start rolling in once you register. You would have to submit proposals with good offers to potential clients to be considered.

2. Affiliate Marketing

This is a marketing technique whereby a person (marketer, blogger, etc) helps a company or a business sell their product online and gets paid. The compensation amount can either be a fixed amount or a percentage of the value of the product. An affiliate marketer is not a company employee, once you play your part well you get a commission.

If you have an active social media account you can engage in affiliate programs. Basically, you would help them advertise products and services on all your social pages, and share the direct links for interested customers.

Online companies like AliExpress, eBay, Amazon, Jumia, Wakanow, Konga, Payporte, Vconnect, Bet9ja, Web4Africa, etc offer great compensation rates to dedicated customers.

3. Referral Marketing

This is another marketing technique which gives customers bonuses when they refer other people to the company. A lot of online companies like Piggyvest, Cowriewise and other Nigerian companies run referral programs.

Your job in referral marketing is to help companies boost sales through your recommendations, which can be done by telling your friends or sharing what the company does on social media. Once you have successfully convinced a prospect, you can share your referral link with them to sign up through your link.

Social schemes like the Nigerian News Update (NNU) may require participants to pay a registration fee of N1,000/N1,600, while some schemes may demand more or less. They accept referrals at an unlimited rate, the more you refer, the more you earn. Let’s say a referral earns you N1,000. Referring 5 people daily would mean getting paid N5,000 daily.

4. Publishing on Kindle

If you are good at writing you may want to consider publishing your work on Amazon Kindle. Once you create an account on the website, you proceed to write a book or publish any of your works.

Every good book needs a cover. Designing a cover could cost you about $5 on Fiverr.

Now you may wonder how people would actually get to see your work and patronize you. Amazon has a method of marketing and advertising for authors at a stipulated charge. This charge is usually gotten from an agreed percentage of your book profit.

5. Selling Pictures Online

If you love photography and with an extra knowledge of photoshop, selling pictures online is highly recommended. There are online companies and individuals who could buy your pictures.

Usually, nature photos and random images are usually more patronized rather than photos that contain humans. Online companies such as Adobe Spark, Flickr, and Gettyimages are some of the platforms to consider when selling photos. You can also find private clients on freelance sites.

If you don’t have a professional camera, you could start with your smartphone for the moment and offer some of your pictures to some people for free. If they love it, you can start charging other people for it.
